There has been hardly any coverage in Western media of President Xi Jinping's three leg visit to the South Asia Pacific Region. The Asia Pacific Economic Conference a week earlier, was covered somewhat, but then again, only the US, but not the EU is part of this conference.
Still I think it is quite intriguing what was broadcasted on Chinese state television throughout the last days, when I was in Beijing trying to hold up against a horrible smog. Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan had left with a company of more than 50 business representatives and high ranking officials to sign important trade agreements and contracts with counterparts in Australia and New Zealand. China is for both countries the largest trading partner and Mandarin is the second most widely spoken language. The last stop in Fiji today had probably rather the purpose of showing strategic-geographic than food and natural resource interests.
Jacques Martin published in 2009 the book "When China Rules the World". Watching the news coverage on CCTV during the last few days, for the Asian Pacific region, the time has already come.
